HAPPY BIRTHDAY MALCOLM X!!

sh-sh-show!?….

sh-sh-show!?.. …

show-BOYYS!!

Stylistically, this track was definitely ahead of its time. And the profound thing is that this would end up not simply being a light-hearted, x-mas-themed rap song, but one of The Showboys’ freshest tracks. There’s a bit of history here, if you’ll allow us to connect some dots… Between companion songs from this compilation “Christmas in Hollis” (Run DMC) and the highly-sampled “Dana Dane is Coming to Town”, and of course not forgetting Kurtis Blow’s “Christmas Rappin'”(1979), hip-hop music has had a very strong showing from EARLY on when it comes to celebrating the holidays. And it’s no joke either! Is it a coincidence that Coco La Rock, the FIRST emcee of hip-hop chose to release his ONLY recorded track in 2008, entitled “Hello Merry Christmas”? Even Sticky Fingaz from Onyx got down for the holidays.

So I guess all this is to say, as stated in the greatest Christmas movie of all time (haha), Beat Street (1984), “HIP-HOP DON’T STOP”, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Holidays from CleanRap!

PEACE.
